Jemig, het kán dus gewoon?? / Gee, so it's possible anyway??

For English translation, please see the blue text below

Plaatje

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

A little while ago I talked about some sort of Google Archives. Well, as from today we can behold that one for real somewhere, to be more exact at www.hetutrechtsarchief.nl.

In the last few weeks here and there in archives and genealogy land some play ground experiments with the Google Custom Search were setup -- and this free toy can already be used for lots of cool applications -- but as an archives with many searchable databases for sure you'll have to come up with something better than that.

Ah well, so everybody go and visit Utrecht in a virtual way.. and go see and admire that!

Bargain
Because in Utrecht they simply just decided to forego the usual rhetoric of things not being possible, being too difficult, or costing too much.. they have purchased the Google Search Appliance, and now they're done with all of this fuss. And I dare to bet that it is a bargain!

Of course many more things can be said about this new website of theirs. The layout, the way search results are displayed, the bla, bla, bla.. All very true I bet.. but for now not really relevant.

The fact is that on their homepage over there they just have only one search box, with the help of which you will search in all databases all at once. Whether you're searching for archives, or for pictures, or for people, or just for a story on their website.. Everything in the most easy way possible. And I'm sure now they can start with some extending and fine tuning.

Out of Den Bosch: a tripple hurray for Het Utrechts Archief (The Utrecht Archives)!

Ah yes..
And while passing I also noticed that they had put little pictures in little blocks.. ;-)
